Shirley Priester Morgan

SHIRLEY PRIESTER MORGAN
Shirley Priester Morgan, 76 of Savannah was taken home by the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007, ideally a day of rebirth and renewal. Born in Savannah, to John and Lilly Priester, the youngest of seven children, she had wonderful memories of her childhood growing up in her Bingville neighborhood of Savannah. In the summer of 1947, she married the love of her life, Dewey Morgan. Immediately following their union, Dewey joined the US Air Force and the young bride stepped into the courageous roles she would then serve for the remainder of her life -- wife, mother, nurse, cook, mechanic, and an endless list of many other duties. She felt honored to bring into this world three sons and two daughters. While her husband flew missions abroad, she was holding down the fort back home. She began teaching Sunday School classes at Robert McIntire United Methodist Church. Later, she volunteered her time at Georgia Regional Hospital. Shirley was a den mother for cub scouts, troop leader for girl scouts, booster club parent, and a cheerleader from the sidelines of many football, baseball, basketball, and softball games, including those of her grandchildren. She was at every awards banquet and when the school lunchroom needed a manager, it was just one more reason for her to be closer to her children. Her husband, Dewey once wrote in a letter that she was such an excellent wife, mother, bookkeeper, doctor, gardener, teacher and so much more. In recent years, her love of all birds, bluebirds in particular, could not go unnoticed. She loved watching and feeding them all. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and the Coastal Georgia Emmaus community. We are blessed for the gracious gift God gave us. Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Dewey LaGrande Morgan, in January. She is also predeceased by her brothers Ellis, Elton and Olan Priester and a sister, Christine Downs. She is survived by her loving family of three sons and two daughters, Dewey Morgan, Jr. Helen of Sylvania, Carroll J. Morgan, Steve Morgan Susan, all of Savannah, Denise Tucker John, of Guyton and Janet Roberts Jimmy, of Richmond Hill. Ten grandchildren; Dewey Morgan, III Kristen, of Pennsylvania, Kris Morgan Katie, Brian Sheppard, Stephen Morgan, Jr., Jean Marie Morgan, all of Savannah, Joshua Morgan Tucker, Ryan Tucker, Samuel Tucker, of Guyton, James and John Roberts, of Richmond Hill. Three Great-Grandchildren; Jonathan, Anna and Stuart Morgan, of Pennsylvania. She also leaves behind two adoring sisters, Frances Patton, of Melbourne, Florida and Marcia King-Horton of Claxton Savannah; several nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and family.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 10, 2007 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Home, Hodgson Chapel with Reverend Dick Patton officiating.
Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren Kris Morgan, Brian Sheppard, Stephen Morgan, Jean Marie Morgan, Joshua Morgan.
In lieu of flowers, the family request remembrances be sent to H.E.A.R.T. Ministry, Inc., P.O. Drawer 170, Lavonia, GA 30553 or St. Luke United Methodist Church, 9114 Whitfield Ave., Savannah, GA 31406.
